Why exactly this decorative element works so well as such a contrasting addition? First of all, the window is the part of the room that most focuses the eye due to the natural light coming through it. Secondly, drape is the kind of element that can be easily replaced when you change your concept about the interior design. The first idea that usually pops into our heads in case of a gray living room is the same color drapes. If you have already decided on such a monochromatic design, try to play with different shades of gray, juxtaposing them with each other and see how they look together. Pearl grey, mousy, dove-grey, steel, graphite, marengo, anthracite – there is definitely no shortage of options available.
Just remember one rule, namely: light colors optically enlarge the space, while dark ones can make it smaller. Plan their arrangement in such a way that the proportions of the room look as favorable as possible. Light also plays a big role in a 100% gray interior. If you choose one with a warm color, gray walls and curtains will gain in coziness. This is especially important when relatively little natural light enters the interior, and thus the gray tones in it have a cold character and need warming.
What color drapes for a gray living room to choose for a minimalist and elegant effect? The safest colors will be those that make up gray: black and white. The juxtaposition of these three colors will best fit into spaces maintained in a modern style, as well as those decorated in an industrial or New York style. Such an arrangement is also worth expanding with furniture made of natural wood or with the appearance of this noble material.
However, let’s assume that you want to arrange your gray living room even differently. What kind of drapes should you choose, so that they contrast interestingly with the walls, and the whole is coherent in perception? As we mentioned earlier, basically any strong color looks good in combination with such a neutral base as a gray wall in the living room. So think of how you envision the rest of the room and what color appeals most to you. Energizing lime? A calm, cool navy blue or blue? Or maybe something crazier, like fuchsia or magenta? Such colorful accents do not have to dominate the interior at all, and even should not.
